Pearl Crescent photographed today at Schluckebier Prairie State Natural Area. (I forgot to post this outing in the comments before I left this afternoon). There's also lots of prairie smoke in bloom there, for wildflower enthusiasts.

Members of the SWBA will be hiking at the Bauer Brockway Barrens in Jackson County from 10:30 - 3:00 Sunday, May 22 (weather permitting). Expected sightings include Duskywings, the Gorgone Checkerspot, the Olympia Marble, a variety of Elfins, and (hopefully) the endangered Karner Blue (pictured). (The bottom photo is one I took during the group's outing there last spring; I was never able to capture the dorsum of the wings).
Directions to the Bauer Brockway Barrens State Natural Area are available at the SWBA website, or at the DNR's website. If you get there late, this map I made using Gmaps Pedometer shows the approximate path the group will follow (NOT guaranteed).
